Pardee School Alumna’s “Diaries in Exile” Documents Stories of Ukrainian Refugees
As part of her continued efforts to showcase the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies alumna Elina Alem Kent (BA IR ’19) has launched a video series called “Diaries in Exile.”
Directly from the Polish/Ukrainian border, “Diaries in Exile” chronicles the personal stories of the Ukrainian refugees and the immigrants who called Ukraine home. As two individuals who have also been displaced by this war, Kent and fellow producer Romana Isabella speak to individuals not as foreigners trying to extract a quotable story, but as fellow displaced people who understand and empathize with their trauma.

Elina-Alem Kent is a previously Ukrainian-based journalist producing the podcast Media in Progress for the Kyiv Independent, a program that documents the launch and growth of the English-language news site created by the former staff of the Kyiv Post who were fired en masse following a disagreement over editorial staff hiring policies.
