Najam Discusses Impact Russian Invasion of Ukraine Has on Global Order

During an interview with Annenberg Media, Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on the global order.

In the interview, Najam comments on the international community’s response to the invasion of Ukraine, particularly China, and how the ongoing events are causing the world order to shift before our eyes. Of note, he questions whether the invasion could make a Chinese incursion into Taiwan more likely. China has yet to denounce Russia and while both countries have troubled relations with the United States, Najam argues that the growing conflict likely won’t push the two closer together as China has its own concerns regarding a growing and more belligerent Russia.

An excerpt:

China and Russia have their own differences. Remember, they are much closer to each other geographically. They have their own history of rivalry. They both presume themselves to be major powers within their own spheres. So even if they now have a common rival in the U.S., that doesn’t necessarily mean that, you know, and that their enemies will make them friends.
