Fewsmith Explores Worldview of China’s Leading Party Theorist

Joseph Fewsmith, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on the Sinica podcast to discuss the worldview of China’s leading Party theorist, Wáng Hùníng. 

Fewsmith joined host Kaiser Kuo as well as Timothy Cheek, professor of history at the University of British Columbia, whose work has focused on establishment intellectuals in the PRC; and Matthew Johnson, principal and founder of the China-focused consultancy AltaSilva LLC, who has studied and written about Wang extensively. In his remarks, Fewsmith discussed Wang’s background and rise to prominence in the Chinese government, how he’s been able to party politics amid leadership transitions, as well as his observations on American politics and leadership.
