Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on multiple international television stations – Dawn TV, Dunya News, Geo News, TRT World, Times Now, and Aljazeera to name a few – to discuss the evolving situation in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul.

Across his remarks, Najam noted that the situation is evolving and, as dramatic as the events have been, we should not consider the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul the end of the story. While the Taliban is saying things they think the international community wants to hear, Najam said that the their true intent will be proven in their actions; considering the Taliban must now transition from a military force to a governing body, those intents will soon become clear.

Najam also noted the significance of a single force now having control over all of Afghanistan after nearly 40 years. He states that, to the Taliban, holding Afghanistan may well be more difficult than swooping in for control after the American withdrawal.
