Najam Interviewed by VOA Radio on Trump Impeachment

On February 16, 2021, Adil NajamDean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on Voice of America‘s Urdu radio service for an interview on the second Trump impeachment trial as well as what it means for United States domestic politics and foreign policy.

In his interview, Najam highlighted that there was no surprise in the final impeachment result given the broken nature of the American polity; however, the results come in a way that all sides can “declare victory.” That means that the real ‘trial’ of what happened on January 6 will continue in the public imagination for a long time to come. He suggested that the first real indication of what the new politics means might come in the 2022 midterm election cycle.

In terms of the international implications, Najam said that the world’s fascination with this aspect of American politics continues and in many ways is crafting a new international image for the country. Restoring U.S. international imagine is itself, he said, one of the major foreign policy challenges for the Biden administration.

A recording of Najam’s interview will be posted here when made available by VOA.
