Najam in CERP Podcast on COVID-19 Impacts on Climate Policy

Adil NajamDean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, was interviewed on the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) Podcast where he talked about the lessons learned from the environmental impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the improvement in climate indicators as a result of recent lockdowns and how these narratives might further develop negatively or positively.

During the podcast, Najam discussed lessons that environmental regulators could gleam from the temporary improvement in average air quality as a result of recent coronavirus related lockdowns. Moderator Sanval Nasim, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), asked whether the recent improvements in air quality are strong enough evidence for better environmental regulations going forward. Najam said the hope would be that recent environmental improvements would spur future action, but he also speculated as to how a negative narrative could diminish the impact of the discovery.
