Hare Speaks on Lessons from Brexit

Ambassador Paul Webster Hare, Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, spoke to the Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies at Emmanuel College about the lessons, the UK, EU and US should learn about Brexit. The talk entitled, “Brexit: Challenges and Opportunities from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Globe,”  was held on Friday, January 31, 2020. 

Amb. Hare, who has been a frequent commentator on Brexit in the international media, spoke about the new realities that has now been created with the British exit from the European Union having been confirmed and finalized. While many uncertainties remain on the details, there are are likely to be many new dynamics that will be created by this momentous decision, not only in the United Kingdom and in Europe, but across the world, including in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Amb. Paul Hare was a British diplomat for 30 years and the British ambassador to Cuba from 2001-04. He no teaches classes at Boston University on Diplomatic Practice, Arms Control, Intercultural Communication and on Cuba in Transition. His novel, “Moncada – A Cuban Story”, set in modern Cuba, was published in 2010. His book “Making Diplomacy Work; Intelligent Innovation for the Modern World” was published in 2015.
