Pardee School Announces MAIA, MGP Deferred Admissions Option

To further inspire and support the next generation of international affairs professionals and global leaders, the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University has introduced Global Impact, a deferred admissions option for our Master of Arts in International Affairs (MAIA) and Master of Arts in Global Policy (MGP) graduate programs open to current Boston University undergraduates who are interested in pursuing an MAIA or MGP at the Pardee School after a few years of work and/or volunteer experience.

“We see Global Impact as an excellent option for qualified Boston University students who know that they would like to earn a Masters in International Affairs or Global Policy in the next few years but also want to gain experience in the work place before continuing their educations,” said Ambassador Robert Loftis, Pardee School Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and Professor of the Practice of International Relations.

For the Global Impact deferred admissions option, the Pardee School seeks applicants from all academic majors and backgrounds who want to pursue a master’s degree though want time to work and explore their career first.  To be eligible to apply through Global Impact applicants must:

  1. Be currently enrolled in at least one BU course and in their final year or final semester as a BU undergraduate student AND
  2. Have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA at the time of application

Students apply with the understanding that if they are admitted, their enrollment will be deferred for two-to-three years, and during the years between completing college and beginning graduate school, accepted students can work or volunteer in any field.  Students are responsible for securing their own work or volunteer positions. After two-to-three years of work or volunteer experience, students will enroll at the Pardee School, taking courses toward their master’s degree.

“The combination of practical experience and high-quality professional education will provide entrée into meaningful and successful careers in international relations and global policy,” said William Grimes, Pardee School Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of International Relations and Political Science.

Applying through Global Impact has several additional benefits for applicants:

  • GRE scores are not required.  Students have already demonstrated academic capability through their BU undergraduate GPA.
  • If admitted, students will be offered a minimum scholarship of $12,000.
  • If admitted, the usual deposit of $300 will not need to be paid in full until shortly before the student enrolls.

Admission through the Global Impact deferred admissions option is subject to the judgment of the admissions committee. Prospective students must submit all required components of the application to receive full consideration for admission to the Pardee School.
