DPE Student Conference Features Pardee School Professors

Several faculty members of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University spoke at an April 6, 2019 student-led conference organized by the Delta Phi Epsilon Gamma Chapter at Boston University.

The conference, entitled “Intersection: Merging Platforms on the International Stage,” featured a diverse group of speakers and panelists whose experience and knowledge aligned in their experience in international affairs. Speakers gave students a firsthand look into the challenges and advances regarding trade policy, international security, and emerging technology.

Pardee School Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of International Relations and Political Science William Grimes delivered opening remarks at the conference on the importance of intersection, and Dean Adil Najam delivered the keynote address. Panels at the conference focused on emerging technology and its intersection with international relations, diverse perspectives on current events, and globalization and its effects. There were also several networking sessions at the conference.

Ambassador Vesko Garcevic, Pardee School Professor of the Practice of International Relations, moderated a panel entitled “Diverse Perspectives,” that featured Shamiran Mako, Pardee School Assistant Professor of International Relations, and Michael Woldemariam, Pardee School Assistant Professor of International Relations and Political Science.

Houchang E. ChehabiProfessor of International Relations and History at the Pardee School, moderated a panel on “Globalization and its Effects.”

Delta Phi Epsilon, of which the Pardee School is an official partner organization, is an International Business and Foreign Service Fraternity and Sorority founded in 1919 at Georgetown University. The Gamma Chapter at Boston University was founded in 1922 through the Questrom School of Business (previously School of Business Administration). The society fosters a community of professionals who want to pursue an international career in management, trade and development, economic policy, international relations, law, or journalism, etc. DPE helps students in their professional development as they grow into future world leaders and advocates of world justice, peace, and prosperity.
