Dean Najam Attends WWF Annual Conference
Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Professor of International Relations and of Earth and Environment, attended the 2016 World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Annual Conference held in Livingstone, Zambia.
The annual conference brings together WWF leadership from around the world to plan conservation priorities, and included a meeting of the WWF International Board of Trustees. Dean Najam serves as a Trustee on the WWF International Board, which is chaired by Yolanda Kakabadse (former Ecuadorian Minister of Environment) and also includes Neville Isdell (former Chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company), Dame Alison Richard (former Vice Chancellor of the Univeristy of Cambridge), Philippe Prufer (CEO of SKP), and Sir Andrew Cahn (former CEO of the UK Trade and Investment agency).
One of the largest conservation organisations in the world, WWF was established in 1961. The central secretariat for the organization, WWF International, is located in Gland, Switzerland and has offices in more than 80 countries around the world. Since its inception 50 years ago, WWF has invested almost US$10 billion in more than 13,000 projects worldwide.
An expert on environmental policy, global governance and international development, Najam holds a PhD and two Masters’ degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also has a Specialisation in Negotiation from the Program on Negotiation at the Harvard Law School, and an engineering degree from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Pakistan. Dr. Najam was a Lead Author for the Third and Fourth Assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), work for which the IPCC was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for advancing the public understanding of climate change science.
