{"id":9795,"date":"2011-07-21T15:54:22","date_gmt":"2011-07-21T19:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/?p=9795"},"modified":"2011-07-21T15:54:22","modified_gmt":"2011-07-21T19:54:22","slug":"najam-selin-pardee-global-compact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2011\/07\/21\/najam-selin-pardee-global-compact\/","title":{"rendered":"Najam and Selin Co-author Essay in UN\u2019s Global Compact Yearbook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pardee Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/experts\/staff\/adil-najam\/\">Director Adil Najam<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/experts\/henrik-selin\/\">Faculty Research Fellow Henrik Selin<\/a> co-authored an article in the United Nations\u2019 <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unglobalcompact.org\/news\/136-07-15-2011\">Global Compact International Yearbook 2011<\/a><\/em>, which was published on July 15.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Intl_Yearbook_2011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Intl_Yearbook_2011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Intl_Yearbook_2011-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"Intl_Yearbook_2011\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Yearbook is published by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unglobalcompact.org\/\">United National Global Compact<\/a>,  a strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to  aligning their operations and strategies with 10 universally accepted  principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and  anti-corruption.  The 2011 Yearkbook features a foreword by UN Secretary  General Ban Ki-moon, and essays by global experts and thought leaders  in the fields of corporate sustainability and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p>The article by Najam and Selin is based on their introductory essay for the Pardee Center Task Force Report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/the\\-global\\-economic\\-governance\\-initiative_v2\/publications\/green-economy\/\"><em>Beyond Rio + 20: Governance for a Green Economy<\/em><\/a>.  The Task Force Report, published in March 2011, was the product of an international and interdisciplinary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/research\/governance-green-economy-rio20\/\">task force convened by Najam and Selin in the fall of 2010<\/a> to contribute to the ongoing discussions of \u201c the challenges of  actualizing the promise of sustainable development, of recreating a  world economy that is \u201cgreener\u2019 and more sustainable, and indentifying  institutional frameworks that could help achieve this vision. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>The agenda for the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UN  CSD), popularly known as \u201cRio + 20\u201d, will focus on the institutional and  governance frameworks required to achieve a green economy and to foster  sustainable development globally.  The<em> Beyond Rio + 20 <\/em>Task  Force Report has been widely distributed among UN officials, policy  makers, and others who are likely to participate in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncsd2012.org\/rio20\/index.php?menu=17\">UN CSD in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pardee Center Director Adil Najam and Faculty Research Fellow Henrik Selin co-authored an article in the United Nations\u2019 Global Compact International Yearbook 2011, which was published on July 15.
