{"id":9421,"date":"2011-07-01T14:50:37","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T18:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/?p=9421"},"modified":"2016-08-30T10:21:19","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T14:21:19","slug":"amb-park-visits-summer-fellows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2011\/07\/01\/amb-park-visits-summer-fellows\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambassador Park, Republic of Korea, discusses Rio+20 with Summer Fellows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ambassador In-kook Park, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations and Co-Chair of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) discussed the issues and prospects for Rio+20 in a luncheon roundtable with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2011\/05\/31\/2011-pardee-summer-program\/\">Pardee Center Summer Fellows<\/a> on July 1st.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img class=\"alignleft wp-image-9422\" title=\"Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam\" src=\"\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam.jpg\" alt=\"Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam\" width=\"550px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam.jpg 605w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2011\/07\/Amb-Park-Korea-Pardee-Najam-299x300.jpg 299w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDuring his remarks, Ambassador Park noted the key issues relating to the Green Economy, including on finance, technology and &#8220;green protectionism.&#8221; He stressed the potential of renewable energies and the interest they are arising amongst industry and Wall Street leaders. He said the key is for renewable energies to reach a price level close to grid parity.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Park outlined the process for Rio+20, noting input for ideas is open until the 1st of November and anticipating an intense negotiating period for the first half of 2012 up until the Rio+20 conference, to be celebrated on 4-6 June in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>This event was part of a series of informal lunch meetings with the Pardee Graduate Summer Fellows and faculty members sponsored by the Frederick S.
