\"poster-Dev-Works-w\"<\/a>Boston University will convene an all-day conference titled <\/em>\u201cDevelopment That Works\u201d<\/a><\/em> on\u00a0Thursday, March 31, 2011 <\/strong>which will bring together leading scholars and practitioners to discuss development ideas that have been demonstrated or have the potential to lead to sustainable and effective development.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

The conference is being organized by the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future <\/a>in collaboration with the\u00a0Boston University Global Development <\/a>program.\u00a0The organizing committee of the conference includes Prof. Kevin Gallagher <\/a>(International Relations), Prof. Dilip Mookherjee<\/a> (Economics), Prof. Jonathon Simon <\/a>(Public Health) and Prof. Adil Najam<\/a> (Pardee Center).<\/p>\n

The conference will be held at the 4th floor conference space at the BU School of Management (Hariri Building, 595 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston University).<\/p>\n

The goal of the conference is to highlight the ideas and trends that are the basis for effective development, especially those that have the potential to reach sustainable outcomes. The conference\u2019s objective is not to present individual \u201csuccess stories\u201d per se, but rather\u00a0to explore the larger concepts and opportunities that have resulted in \u2013 or have the potential to resuilt in \u2013 development that is meaningful and sustainable in the longer-run.<\/strong> The conference will seek to make a critical assessment of why and how some development programs take hold. The goal is to incite a conversation focused on the broader lessons to be learned about \u2018development that works\u2019.<\/p>\n
