Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future will hold the first Pardee House Seminar of the new year on Monday, January 31, 2011, on <em>&#8216;Global Philanthropy and Development.<\/em>&#8216; The seminar will feature<strong> Paula D. Johnson<\/strong> (The Philanthropic Initiative), Pardee Center Visiting Fellow <strong>Prof. John Hammock <\/strong>(Tufts University) and <strong>Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha<\/strong> (Pakistan Center for Philanthropy). The seminar will be moderated by Prof. Adil Najam, Director, Pardee Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Seminar will be held on <strong>Monday, January 31, 2011<\/strong> (lunch will be available from 11.30am, seminar starts at 12.00pm).<strong>Please RSVP to <a href=\"mailto:pardee@bu.edu\">pardee@bu.edu<\/a> <\/strong>by Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Seating is limited to 30 participants.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha is the founder and serves as the Chairman of the Board of the Pakistan Center for Philanthropy. He served as founding President of the Aga Khan University for 27 years and lead the establishment of its campuses and programs in seven countries of Asia and Africa as well as the UK.\u00a0Later he served as Pakistan&#8217;s Minister for Education and for Science and Technology. He also sits on the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and on the board of International Baccalaureate Organization.\u00a0He has received the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa from McMaster University of Canada as well as high civil awards from the Presidents of Pakistan and France.<\/p>\n<p>Paula Doherty Johnson is Vice President and Director of Global Philanthropy at The Philanthropic Initiative, Inc. (TPI), where she leads efforts to understand, strengthen, and support global philanthropy and its impact on global development. She conducts research to strengthen giving to and within other countries and works directly with individual donors and foundations to develop global giving strategies and programs. From 2002 &#8211; 2007, Ms. Johnson was also a research fellow with the Global Equity Initiative (GEI) at Harvard University where she led and conducted applied research aimed at strengthening the role of private philanthropic investments in advancing global equity.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/john-hammock\/\">John Hammock<\/a> is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University, an Associate Professor of Public Policy at Tufts University\u2019s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the North American Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ophi.org.uk\/\">Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative<\/a>. He founded and was director of the Feinstein International Famine Center at Tufts University. He served as Executive Director at Oxfam America from 1984-1995 and as Executive Director at ACCION International from 1973-1980.<\/p>\n<p>The Pardee Seminar Series focuses on a variety of issues and invites experts from different disciplines to discuss the long-range challenges and trends in that particular issue.<\/p>\n<p>The Seminar will be held at Pardee House (67 Bay State Road, Boston) on <strong>Monday, January 31, 2011<\/strong>.
