Experts discuss accountability in global environmental governance at Pardee House.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)<\/a> and the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future organized an experts brainstorming meeting on\u00a0\u00a0Accountability in Global Environmental Governance<\/a> on September 9, 2010 at the Pardee House.<\/p>\n

The meeting brought together a select group of leading practitioners and scholars\u00a0in a brainstorming session to examine how the global environmental governance (GEG) system can be made more accountable and, especially, how the importance of this linkage can be highlighted for and given a genuine hearing at the forthcoming Rio+20 environmental summit<\/a>, scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2012.<\/p>\n

Experts who attended the meeting included:\u00a0Adnan Amin, Director of the United Nations Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) Secretariat, Amb. Lumumba Di-Aping of Sudan, who is his country\u2019s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations and has been the Chief Negotiator of the G-77 in recent environmental negotiations,\u00a0Mark Halle of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Tom Bigg<\/a> of the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), Prof. Maria Ivanova<\/a> of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Dr. Miquel Munoz<\/a> of the Pardee Center, Ricardo Melendez-Ortiz of the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), Deborah Murphy of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Prof. Hans Peter Schmitz of Syracuse University, Ulf Melgaard of the Danish Foreign Ministry and Mission of the United Nations, and Prof. Adil Najam<\/a>, Director of the Boston University Pardee Center.<\/p>\n

As part of the Pardee Center\u2019s suite of activities on global governance, the Pardee Center also organized a lunch seminar on \u2018Accountability in Global Governance<\/a>\u2019<\/a> <\/em>on September 9, 2010, featuring some of the experts from this meeting.
