Pardee Center Task Force on Governance for a Green Economy meets at Pardee House<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Pardee Center Task Force on Governance for a Green Economy<\/strong><\/a> met at the Pardee House on September 10, 2010 in an all-day experts meeting which discussed different aspects of the topic and deliberated on ideas that are most likely to advance effective institutional innovations towards better governance for sustainable development and a ‘green economy.’<\/p>\n

The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future has convened this task Force in preparation for the forthcoming 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). This project is part of the Pardee Center\u2019s ongoing activities related to sustainable development governance and the United Nations (see, for example, Pardee Center event at the UN CSD 2010<\/a>, Pardee Center event at the UN CSD 2009<\/a>, publishing <\/a>Sustainable Development Insights<\/a> in collaboration with SDKP<\/a>, recent Pardee Center publications<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The members of the Task Force were asked to reflect upon and discuss the institutional frameworks that would be necessary if we are to moved towards sustainable development and a green economy. A select group of invited experts were asked to turn their ideas into short \u2018think pieces\u2019 which will be published as a Pardee Center Task Force Report and will be presented to the Rio+20 preparatory process as an input into its deliberations. The group of experts convened for the Pardee Center Task Force included: Tom Bigg<\/strong><\/a> (International Institute for Environment and Development); Elizabeth DeSombre<\/strong> <\/strong> (Wellesley College); Mark Halle<\/strong> (International Institute for Sustainable Development); J.P. (Hans) Hoogeveen<\/strong> (Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature & Food Quality); Saleemul Huq<\/strong><\/a> (International Institute for Environment and Development); Bernice Lee<\/strong> <\/a> (Chatham House); David Levy<\/strong><\/a> (University of Massachusetts at Boston); Ricardo Melendez-Ortiz<\/strong> (International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development); Adil Najam<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>(Pardee Center, Boston University); Henrik Selin<\/strong><\/a> (Pardee Center, Boston University); Stacy VanDeveer<\/strong><\/a> (University of New Hampshire); Patrick Verkooijen<\/strong><\/a><\/a> (World Bank); Paul Wapner<\/strong><\/a> (American University)<\/p>\n

The Task Force report is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2011.<\/p>\n

The Task Force meeting was part of the Pardee Center\u2019s suite of activities of global governance, which included a Pardee House Seminar on \u2018Accountability in Global Governance<\/a>\u2019<\/a> <\/em>on September 9, 2010, and a separate experts meeting on accountability in global environmental governance<\/a>, also held on September 9, 2010.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
