The Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer Range Future at Boston University (BU) seek applicants for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to support a research project on the interdisciplinary aspects of energy transitions that is funded by the Mellon Foundation. \u00a0The successful candidate will serve as post-doctoral Fellow at the Pardee Center with a joint appointment in the Department of Geography and Environment, and will work with BU faculty, Boston-area faculty, and a group of international visiting scholars. Issues to be addressed include the cultural, social and historical forces that generated earlier energy transitions; differences in driving forces between developed and developing nations; and the attitudes, behaviors, policies, and institutions are needed to manage, or perhaps even engineer, the impending energy transition.<\/div>\n
The main tasks of the Research Associate will be to stimulate interdisciplinary exchange among participants, establish a year-long seminar series, support PhD students in the project, and coordinate publications and outreach. In addition, the Research Associate will to develop his\/her own research projects within the thematic framework of the project.<\/div>\n
This position is offered for one year, beginning 1 September 2010. \u00a0Applicants must have a PhD. \u00a0We anticipate that the successful candidate will have a background in the Social Sciences or their related professions such as Law or Business. \u00a0However, candidates from the natural sciences and engineering with demonstrated interdisciplinary experience are encouraged to apply as well.<\/div>\n
