{"id":32848,"date":"2022-10-18T15:16:29","date_gmt":"2022-10-18T19:16:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/?p=32848"},"modified":"2022-10-18T15:16:29","modified_gmt":"2022-10-18T19:16:29","slug":"graduate-summer-fellows-program-alum-noor-toraif-featured-in-bu-today-on-creation-of-new-course-on-structural-racism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2022\/10\/18\/graduate-summer-fellows-program-alum-noor-toraif-featured-in-bu-today-on-creation-of-new-course-on-structural-racism\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Summer Fellows Program Alum Noor Toraif Featured in <em>BU Today<\/em> on Creation of New Course on Structural Racism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/files\/2021\/05\/toraif.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" class=\"alignright wp-image-30060 \" \/>Noor Toraif, a 2021 Pardee Center\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/graduate-summer-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Summer Fellow<\/a>\u00a0and a PhD candidate\u00a0at BU&#8217;s School of Social Work, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/articles\/2022\/free-course-understanding-structural-racism\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">recently featured in a <i>BU Today<\/i> article<\/a> for her work creating a new free online course for understanding structural racism.<\/p>\n<p>Led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ssw\/profile\/dawn-belkin-martinez\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dawn Belkin Martinez<\/a>, a School of Social Work Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, the self-paced non-credit course, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/thenetwork.bu.edu\/offering\/understanding-structural-institutional-racism\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Understanding Structural &#038; Institutional Racism<\/a>, seeks to give social workers and other health and human service providers a better understanding of the institutional and structural oppression affecting the lives of their clients.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of institutions are talking about interpersonal racism and bias and prejudice.
