Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently played a leading role in the planning of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reeffutures2018.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reef Futures 2018<\/a>\u00a0symposium in Key Largo, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium was the first global conference addressing coral reef restoration and intervention science, featuring over 550 leading experts from nearly 40 countries. The objective of the conference was to &#8220;tackle the challenges facing the planet&#8217;s coral reefs by sharing solutions, new research, experimental techniques, and promoting collaboration between global leaders in the field.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The conference was presented by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Australia&#8217;s Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP), and hosted by the\u00a0Coral Restoration Consortium (CRC), on which Prof. Kaufman represents Boston University as a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/reeffutures2018.com\/en\/90-about-the-crc\/92-steering-the-crc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steering Committee<\/a>. Kaufman also served as co-chair of the\u00a0symposium&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/reeffutures2018.com\/en\/96-reef-futures-planning-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science Program Planning Committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Les Kaufman, a Professor in the Department of Biology and a Faculty Research Fellow at the Frederick S.
