Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, authored a recent\u00a0paper titled<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2214629618302457\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cEnergy democracy in a continuum: Remaking public engagement on energy transitions in Thailand<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fenvs.2018.00005\/full\" target=\"_blank\">\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in the journal <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/energy-research-and-social-science\" target=\"_blank\">Energy Research &amp; Social Science<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the paper, Delina explores how to achieve sustainable energy transitions &#8220;inclusively, fairly, and justly&#8221; in non-democratic countries. Focusing on non-democratic Thailand, he shows how community-oriented energy transitions can occur outside of government-led forums of public engagement.<\/p>\n<p>This paper follows the publication of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fenvs.2018.00005\/full\" target=\"_blank\">perspective article<\/a>\u00a0published in <em>Frontiers in Environmental Science <\/em>last month in which\u00a0Delina, again drawing on\u00a0his work in Thailand, argues that energy democracy \u2014 the idea\u00a0of citizens leading\u00a0energy transitions in small groups\u00a0of households for social and economic purposes \u2014 can thrive in non-democratic countries.<\/p>\n<p>At the Pardee Center, Delina\u00a0leads a research project called<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/research\/the-future-of-energy-systems-in-developing-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Future of Energy Systems in Developing Countries<\/a>, which\u00a0seeks to understand the options and trade-offs\u00a0for achieving a\u00a0secure and sustainable energy future in a select number of developing countries. He is the author of two recent books,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Strategies-for-Rapid-Climate-Mitigation-Wartime-mobilisation-as-a-model\/Delina\/p\/book\/9781138646230\" target=\"_blank\">Strategies for Rapid Climate Mitigation:\u00a0Wartime mobilisation as a model for action?<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(Routledge 2016) and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.routledge.com\/Accelerating-Sustainable-Energy-Transitions-in-Developing-Countries\/Delina\/p\/book\/9781138741133\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Accelerating Sustainable Energy Transition(s) in Developing Countries:\u00a0The challenges of climate change and sustainable development<\/em><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>(Routledge 2017). He also recently guest edited, with Pardee Center Director<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/janetos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Janetos<\/a>, a special issue of the journal<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/journal\/energy-research-and-social-science\/vol\/35\/suppl\/C\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Energy Research and Social Science<\/em>\u00a0(Vol. 35, January 2018)<\/a>\u00a0consisting of 24 accounts, stories, narratives, and perspectives on the futures of energy systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laurence Delina, a postdoctoral associate at the Frederick S.
