Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/post-doctoral-associates\/irene-monasterolo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Irene Monasterolo<\/a>, a Visiting Research Fellow, recently co-authored a paper on climate-related financial disclosure in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/journal\/10584\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Climatic Change<\/em><\/a>. The paper, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10584-017-2095-9#citeas\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Vulnerable yet relevant: the two dimensions of climate-related financial disclosure,&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0proposes two novel indices to identify financial actors who are &#8220;vulnerable yet relevant&#8221; to climate change policies.<\/p>\n<p>The authors first identified two investment caveats\u00a0to market-based\u00a0approaches to\u00a0smoothly transitioning to a low-carbon economy: imperfect information\u00a0about the exposure of portfolios to climate-related risks and a lack of common measures of exposure. To address these limiting factors, they\u00a0develop two indices: &#8220;greenhouse gas exposure,&#8221; which captures a portfolio&#8217;s exposure to\u00a0energy transition risks, and \u201cgreenhouse gas holding,\u201d which captures\u00a0an actor&#8217;s contribution to GHG emissions.
