Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.\u00a0Last week, the Fellows presented their ongoing research progress to Pardee Center staff, post-docs, and affiliated faculty\u00a0to receive\u00a0feedback at the midpoint of the fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day of presentations,\u00a0Radost Stanimirova (Earth and Environment) spoke about her research on the\u00a0response of global pasturelands to climate variability, followed by Edward Hines (Earth and Environment) on drought and urban heat stress, and Philip Rotz (History) on\u00a0the threat of dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever, and zika outbreaks in South Africa. On the second day, Alexandra Vivelo (Biology) presented her research on\u00a0the impact of\u00a0\u00a0nitrogen fertilization\u00a0on\u00a0soils, followed by\u00a0Chukwuemeka Umeh (Public Health) on universal health coverage in sub-Saharan Africa,\u00a0Leyla Tiglay (Political Science) on\u00a0the management of rare earth elements, and finally\u00a0Joshua Duclos (Philosophy) on the\u00a0ethics of wilderness preservation and the welfare of wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of the program, the Fellows have also participated in weekly lunch discussions with Pardee Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/pardee-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\">Faculty Research Fellows<\/a>\u00a0Kevin Gallagher (Pardee School of Global Studies), Lucy Hutyra (Earth and Environment), Joe Harris (Sociology), and Les Kaufman (Biology), in addition to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2016\/06\/23\/pardee-center-hosts-reception-with-current-former-summer-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\">networking reception<\/a> with alumni of the program.
