\"LARR<\/a>A recent special issue of the journal<\/a> Latin American Research Review<\/em> co-edited by Boston University Prof. Jeffrey Rubin (History) is based on a 2012 project co-sponsored by the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and the Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs (CURA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Titled “Lived Religion and Lived Citizenship in Latin America’s Zones of Crisis,” the special issue is an outcome of an April 2012 conference <\/a>called “Religion, Social Movements, and Zones of Crisis in Latin America,” coordinated by Prof. Rubin and co-sponsored by CURA and the Pardee Center. Prof. Rubin subsequently co-authored a Pardee Center Issues in Brief<\/em> of the same name<\/a> published in November 2012.\u00a0 His co-authors on the Issues in Brief, Profs. David Smilde<\/b><\/a> of Tulane University and Benjamin Junge<\/a><\/b> of the State University of New York-New Paltz, are also co-editors for the LARR special issue. The trio also co-authored the introductory article.<\/p>\n

Jeffrey W. Rubin\u00a0is Associate Professor of History and Research Associate at the Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs at Boston University.\u00a0\u00a0He received his A.B in Social Studies and Ph.D. in Political Science at Harvard University.\u00a0\u00a0In 2015, he is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard\u2019s David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies.<\/p>\n

A specialist on social movements, Prof. Rubin is the author of\u00a0Decentering the Regime:\u00a0 Ethnicity, Radicalism, and Democracy in Juchit\u00e1n, Mexico\u00a0<\/i>(Duke 1997)\u00a0and co-author\u00a0of\u00a0Sustaining Activism: A Brazilian Women\u2019s Movement and a Father-Daughter Collaboration\u00a0<\/i>(Duke 2013).\u00a0\u00a0He is co-editor of\u00a0Enduring Reform:\u00a0 Progressive Activism and Private Sector Responses in Latin America\u2019s Democracies\u00a0<\/i>(Pittsburgh 2014);\u00a0<\/i>\u201cLived Religion and Lived Citizenship in Latin America\u2019s Zones of Crisis,\u201d (Special Issue of\u00a0LARR,\u00a0<\/i>2014);\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0Beyond Civil Society:\u00a0\u00a0Social Movements, Civic Participation, and Democratic Contestation\u00a0<\/i>(forthcoming, Duke).\u00a0\u00a0<\/i>His current project,\u00a0\u201cCitizen Subjectivities Reconfigured\u201d examines how social movements, business, and religion have reshaped the ways people understand themselves as citizens and act politically in Latin America\u2019s democracies.<\/p>\n
