{"id":13980,"date":"2012-11-07T11:44:14","date_gmt":"2012-11-07T16:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/?p=13980"},"modified":"2012-11-08T11:25:47","modified_gmt":"2012-11-08T16:25:47","slug":"global-conversations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2012\/11\/07\/global-conversations\/","title":{"rendered":"Pardee Fellows to Lead \u201cGlobal Conversations\u201d at BU Castle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"\/pardee\/files\/2012\/11\/image001.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"355\" height=\"123\" src=\"\/pardee\/files\/2012\/11\/image001.png\" alt=\"International Education \" title=\"International Education \" class=\"size-full wp-image-13989 aligncenter\" \/><\/a>Pardee Faculty Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/muhammad-zaman\/\">Muhammad Zaman<\/a> and Visiting Research Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/research\\-fellows\\-2\/laura-ann-twagira\/\">Laura Ann Twigara<\/a> will lead separate lunchtime \u201cGlobal Conversations\u201d as part of a program of activities organized by BU Global Programs to celebrate International Education Week (IEW), Nov.\u00a0 12-16.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Nov. 15, Prof. Zaman will lead a discussion on the topic of &#8220;The Role of a University in Creating Practitioners of Global Development\u201d from noon to 1:30 p.m. at The BU Castle, 225 Bay State Road. \u00a0He will be joined by discussants <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cghd\/about-us\/people\/donald-thea\/\">Prof. Don Thea<\/a> (Center for Global Health &amp; Development) and <a href=\"http:\/\/sph.bu.edu\/index.php?option=com_sphdir&amp;id=239&amp;Itemid=340&amp;INDEX=755\">Prof. Susie Foster<\/a> (School of Public Health), who is a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/pardee-advisory-board\/\">Pardee Faculty Advisory Board<\/a>. \u00a0Along with Global Programs, co-sponsors of this event include the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cghd\/\">Center for Global Health &amp; Development.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Nov. 16, Twigara, who is also a Visiting Researcher at the African Studies Center, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ir\/faculty\/alphabetical\/michael-woldemariam\/\">Michael Woldemariam<\/a>, Assistant Professor of International Relations, will discuss \u201cPolitical Islam in Mali and Somalia \u2013 is Al Qaeda at Work in Africa?\u201d\u00a0 This session is co-sponsored by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/globalprograms\/\">Global Programs<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/africa\/\">African Studies Center<\/a> and will also take place at the BU Castle.<br \/>\nOn both days, lunch will be available starting at noon and the discussion will begin at 12:30 p.m. Seating is limited.
