The meeting was held June 27-July 2 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The Pardee Center\u2019s official observer status for the negotiations enabled the pair to pursue research related to their recent publication <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2012\/05\/18\/selin-sippl-environment-mag\/\"><em>\u201c<\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Global Policy for Local Livelihoods: Phasing Out Mercury in <a href=\"\/pardee\/files\/2011\/04\/kristin-sippl-edit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8773\" title=\"kristin sippl-edit\" src=\"\/pardee\/files\/2011\/04\/kristin-sippl-edit.jpg\" alt=\"kristin sippl-edit\" width=\"78\" height=\"93\" \/><\/a>Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining<\/span><em>\u201c<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentmagazine.org\/index.html\"><em>Environment, Science and Policy for Sustainable Development Magazine<\/em><\/a>. Selin studied the negotiations as a whole in connection with his broader research on the global management of hazardous chemicals, while Sippl focused on artisanal and small-scale gold mining as part of her dissertation research on sustainable livelihoods.
