Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future on April 25 hosted a discussion led by Pardee Faculty Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/sucharita-gopal\/\">Sucharita Gopal <\/a>about the methods and findings of a recent Pardee Center Research Report titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/connecting-the-dots\/\"><em>Connecting the Dots: Information Visualization and Text Analysis of the Search Project Newsletters<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Prof. Gopal co-authored the report with former Pardee Center Dirctor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/professors\/adil-najam\/\">Adil Najam<\/a>, who is now the Vice Chancellor of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lums.edu.pk\/\">Lahore University of Management Sciences<\/a> in Pakistan.\u00a0 The report is part of a larger project sponsored by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/research\/searchlight-rockefeller\/\">The Rockefeller Foundation<\/a> that sought to extract and visually display major societal trends found in regional newsletters from around the globe on local issues related to human development.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Gopal reviewed the methods used to review more than 300 newsletters, catalog the topics covered, and determine whether the topics were related to larger trends in a particular region or even globally.\u00a0 She also discussed the development of specific types of visual displays used in the report, including tree maps, histograms, box plots, and dashboards.<\/p>\n<p>The report is available in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/connecting-the-dots\/\">PDF format<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/\">publications section<\/a> of this web site and hard copies may be requested by email to <a href=\"mailto:pardee@bu.edu\">pardee@bu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Frederick S.
