According to Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri, the country suffers from weak and concentrated productivity improvements in the manufacturing sector, and low employment growth. These issues are paired with continued weakness in productivity in the agriculture sector. Furthermore, she argued, the country\u2019s trade balance has shown persistent deficits for a major part of the post-independence period.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri argued that there is a need for more active policy efforts to be directed toward improving efficiency of Indian manufacturing and agriculture. Efforts toward direct employment generation programs in the form of rural development programs, large scale infrastructural development projects are also needed, said Dr. Nabar-Bhaduri.
