Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future will hold the first Pardee House Seminar of the year on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/calendar\/?eid=117864\">January 24, 2012<\/a>, on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/calendar\/?eid=117864\">&#8216;Future Roles of Universities Worldwide: Moving Beyond the Ivory Tower?&#8217;<\/a> The seminar will feature <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bc.edu\/schools\/lsoe\/facultystaff\/faculty\/altbach.html\">Prof. Philip G. Altbach<\/a> (Director, Center for International Higher Education, Boston College), Prof. Hardin Coleman (Dean, School of Education, BU) and Prof. Sally Susnowitz (Director, Public Service Center MIT). The seminar will be moderated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/robert-hollister\/\">Prof. Rob Hollister<\/a> (Visiting Faculty Fellow, Pardee Center; Professor, Dept. Urban and Environmental Policy and planning, Tufts University).<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Hardin Coleman is Dean of the School of Education at BU. As Dean, Coleman prioritizes external partnerships with school systems. His school ran the Chelsea Public Schools for several years &#8211; a dramatic example of university community engagement.\u00a0 The School hosts an annual summer research institute on The Future of Civic Engagement in Higher Education.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Sally Susnowitz is Director of the innovative Public Service Center at MIT. For the past ten years her Center has directed the IDEAS Global Challenge (Innovation, Development, Enterprise, Action and Service). Over that span 74 teams of MIT students and their collaborators have worked with community partners to improve living conditions around the world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/robert-hollister\/\">Prof. Rob Hollister<\/a> is a visiting Faculty Fellow at the Pardee Center and Director of the Talloires Network, a growing global coalition of 230 universities in 62 countries moving beyond the ivory tower. Hollister is co-author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.routledge.com\/books\/details\/9780415874656\/\"><em>The Engaged University: International Perspectives on Civic Engagement<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bc.edu\/schools\/lsoe\/facultystaff\/faculty\/altbach.html\">Prof. Philip G. Altbach<\/a> is a professor at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. Altbach is an expert in comparative education, philosophy of education, and international education. His most recent book is titled, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books\/about\/Leadership_for_world_class_universities.html?id=8_dsPgAACAAJ\"><em>Leadership for World-Class Universities: Challenges for Developing Countries.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Seminar will be held at Pardee House, 67 Bay State Road, on <strong>Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/calendar\/?eid=117864\">January 24, 2012<\/a><\/strong> (Lunch will be available from 11.30am, seminar starts at 12.00pm). <strong>Please RSVP to<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:pardee@bu.edu\">pardee@bu.edu<\/a> by Friday, January 20.
