The conference, titled &#8220;<em>50 Years of African Liberation<\/em>&#8221; was held in Washington, D.C. from November 16 &#8211; 19, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. McCann chaired the panel on <em>&#8220;Perspectives on Food Soverignty: Taste, Technology, and the Environment&#8221;<\/em> and Mettler and Fogelman-Huhn presented papers at the same panel. Mettler, who was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/2011-summer-fellows\/\">2011 class of the Pardee Summer Fellows Program<\/a>, presented her paper on <em>Beyond Paternalism: Colonial Food Policy and the Disruption of Local Diets in French Sudan, French West Africa, 1914-1945<\/em> while Fogelman-Huhn, who was in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/2009-pardee-center-summer-fellows\/\">2009 class of the Pardee Summer Fellows Program<\/a>, presented on <em>Why People Eat (What They Eat) in Northern Mozambique.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fogelman-Huhn also published a Pardee Issue Brief on nutrition in Sub-saharan Africa titled\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/policy-011-malnutrition\/\">The Changing Shape of Malnutrition: Obesity in sub-Saharan Africa<\/a>. <\/em><\/strong>The paper is available for download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/policy-011-malnutrition\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pardee Center Director, Prof. James C McCann and Summer Fellows Natalie Mettler and Arianna Fogelman-Huhn attended the African Studies Association 54th Annual Meeting Program.
