Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future has published the report of the 2010 Pardee Center Task Force titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/latin-america-2060\/\">Latin America 2060: Consolidation or Crisis?<\/a>\u201d  The report will be officially launched at the annual meeting of the New England Council of Latin America Studies (NECLAS) on Saturday, November 5 at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.<\/p>\n<p>This report is the outcome of the Pardee Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/research\/latin-america-2060\/\">Task Force on Latin America 2060<\/a> convened in November 2010 by Pardee Center Faculty Fellows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/david-scott-palmer\/\">David Scott Palmer<\/a>, Professor of International Relations and Political Science and Director of Latin America Studies, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/carlos-blanco\/\">Carlos Blanco<\/a>, Visiting Professor of International Relations, at Boston University. Task Force members include leading scholars and practitioners from Latin America and the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The publication includes original essays by the Task Force members covering five key areas that are most likely to set the parameters of the region\u2019s future, including: 1) Economic growth and development; 2) Governance, democracy, and the state; 3) Environmental sustainability; 4) Role of outside actors; 5) Socio-cultural capacity. The concluding chapter offers policy recommendations drawn from the individual analyses to suggest concrete steps that could be taken to deal with the issues discussed.<\/p>\n<p>Four members of the Task Force \u2013 Prof. Palmer and Prof. Blanco along with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ir\/faculty\/alphabetical\/ann-helwege\/\">Prof. Ann Helwege<\/a> of BU\u2019s International Relations Department and BU Political Science doctoral candidate Oya Yegen \u2013 are on a panel at the NECLAS meeting and will introduce the report during their session, which is also titled \u201cLatin America 2060: Consolidation or Crisis?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/latin-america-2060\/\">An electronic version <\/a>of the report may be downloaded from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/\">publications library<\/a> on this web site and hard copies may be requested via email to pardee@bu.edu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Frederick S.
