Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University has published a new paper (No. 14) in <em>The Pardee Papers<\/em> series.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/publications-library\/the-pardee-papers\/pardee-papers-14-tech\/\"><em>Africa&#8217;s Technology Futures: Three Scenarios<\/em><\/a> was written by 2008-2009 Pardee Visiting Graduate Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/community\/dirk-swart\/\">Dirk Swart<\/a>. This paper uses a scenario planning approach to explore two questions  about Sub-Saharan Africa: 1) Can this region be effective at creating,  owning, developing, and harnessing homegrown technology, and 2) can it  successfully adapt non-African technologies into innovation cycles?<\/p>\n<p>Currently the Assistant Director of IT for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Swart&#8217;s research focuses on trade negotiation, technology Policy, Africa policy.<\/p>\n<p>This paper is part of the <strong><a href=\"..\/research\/africa-2060\/\" target=\"_blank\">Africa 2060 Project<\/a><\/strong>, a Pardee Center program of research, publications, and <a href=\"..\/2010\/04\/06\/good-news-from-africa\/\">symposia<\/a> exploring African futures in various aspects related to development on continental and regional scales.<\/p>\n<p>All Pardee Center publications are available at no cost in PDF format on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/the\\-global\\-economic\\-governance\\-initiative_v2\/publications\/\">publications library page<\/a> of the center\u2019s website.
