{"id":819,"date":"2008-11-20T13:09:48","date_gmt":"2008-11-20T17:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2008\/11\/20\/conference-book-diasporas-and-development\/"},"modified":"2015-01-06T12:57:37","modified_gmt":"2015-01-06T17:57:37","slug":"conference-book-diasporas-and-development","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/research\/conference-book-diasporas-and-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Diasporas and Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Project Coordinator:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/\/susan-eckstein\/\">Prof. Susan Eckstein<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2141 alignright\" src=\"\/pardee\/files\/2009\/09\/migration-research1.jpg\" alt=\"migration-research1\" height=\"403\" width=\"262\" \/>In this Pardee research project, the Center brought together scholarship and insight from a variety of disciplines to examine examples from across the globe on the variety of ways in which diasporas impact the development of the countries they had originally left behind.<\/p>\n<p>This project sought to build upon and convene a body of exciting literature emerging in different disciplines on issues pertaining to the question of what impact diasporas (defined, tentatively, as populations that have left one &#8216;home&#8217; society and settled in another &#8216;host&#8217; society, while maintaining some group identity and meaningful associations with the &#8216;home&#8217; society) have on the society (country) they originally came from. The project purposefully adopted a broad view of the question at hand.<\/p>\n<h2>Events\/Publications<\/h2>\n<p>The project\u00a0held an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2009\/09\/25\/how-migrants-impact-homelands\/\" target=\"_blank\">authors&#8217; conference in September 2009<\/a>, in which the first drafts of the chapters for the book were presented.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/pardee\/2013\/04\/17\/immigrants-homelands\/\">book was published in 2010.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project Coordinator: Prof. Susan Eckstein In this Pardee research project, the Center brought together scholarship and insight from a variety of disciplines to examine examples from across the globe on the variety of ways in which diasporas impact the development of the countries they had originally left behind.
