Conference: Good News From Africa, Friday, April 16 2010<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

<\/a><\/h4>\n

The Pardee Center organized an all-day conference at Boston University on Friday, April 16, 2010. The conference brought together leading scholars, practitioners, and experts on Africa in a series of discussion panels which took an in-depth view of current trends in social and economic development, politics, and culture within the continent and its subregions. Boston University’s Africa Studies Center (ASC) and the African Presidential Archives and Research Center (APARC)\u2014two leading centers of African studies, both at Boston University\u2014were collaborating partners for the conference.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/h4>\n

The goal of the conference was to highlight the trends likely to shape the region over the next half century, especially those that have the potential to reach positive outcomes. The conference sought to incite a conversation focused on the steps needed to craft a better future for the continent without ignoring the realities on the ground or the difficulty of change.<\/p>\n

Pardee House Seminar: Africa 2060 – Health & Development, Thursday, July 1, 2010<\/a><\/h4>\n

On July 1, 2010, the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future held a lunch seminar on <\/em>“Africa 2060 \u2013 Health & Development<\/em><\/a>.” <\/em>Part of the Pardee House Seminars series, the event <\/em>featured Prof. Astier M. Almedom, Dr. Alfredo Burlando,<\/strong> and Dr. Melissa Graboyes<\/strong> and was moderated by Prof. Adil Najam<\/strong>, Director of the Pardee Center.<\/p>\n

Pardee House Seminar: Launch of the “Africa 2060: Good News From Africa” Conference Report, Monday, December 6, 2010<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n

The report of the Pardee Center\u2019s \u2018Africa 2060: Good News from Africa<\/a><\/em>‘ conference was launched at a special Pardee House Seminar on December 6, 2010. Panelists included Amb. Charles Stith<\/strong>, Director of the BU African Presidential Archives and Research Center (APARC); Prof. Timothy Longman<\/strong>, Director of the BU African Studies Center (ASC), and Dr. Julius Gatune Kariuki<\/strong><\/a>, Visiting Fellow at the BU Pardee Center and Fellow at the African Center of Economic Transformation (ACET) in Ghana. Prof. Adil Najam<\/strong><\/a>, Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, moderated the discussion.<\/p>\n
