Biography<\/h3>\n

Marta Marello has a background in economics and environmental policy with research and project management experience in the fields of energy efficiency, climate change mitigation, and the informal sector of waste management.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Based at the Pardee Center, she is currently Project Manager for the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>BU Climate Action Plan\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>where her role is to coordinate and participate in the research efforts of a university-wide task force in developing climate mitigation and adaptation strategies that will be submitted for consideration by the University\u2019s Board of Trustees. She also writes monthly reports for Climate Scorecard, a small non-profit documenting progress of the top 25 greenhouse gas-emitting countries in implementing the Paris Agreement. Previously, Marello was part of a research team that examined the demand side of energy in large residential buildings for a multidisciplinary project in collaboration with Madison Park Development Corporation in Boston.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

In the fall of 2015, Marello was invited to present at the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Climate KIC<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>program hosted within COP21 in Paris, France. As the Boston winner of the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>#Climathon<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>global competition, Marello and her team\u00a0<\/span><\/span>showcased<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>their climate adaptation solution related to coastal flooding to a high-level audience of city, climate, and start-up specialists.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

While in graduate school, Marello researched the informal sector of waste management in Latin America. Fieldwork in\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Brazil\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Nicaragua<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) culminated in her Master thesis titled \u201cWaste Pickers: Strategies to Enhance Livelihoods\u201d and a policy brief published through the Global Economic Governance Initiative (GEGI) with co-author Ann Helwege.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
