Pardee Center Co-Hosts Talk by Joseph S. Nye Jr. on His Book, “A Life in the American Century”

On January 22, 2025, Joseph S. Nye Jr., Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at Harvard University, gave a talk about his new book, A Life in the American Century.

In the book, Nye explains that, for the past eight decades, we have lived in “the American Century” – a period during which the U.S. has enjoyed unrivaled power – be it political, economic, or military – on the global stage. Born on the cusp of this new era, Nye shares his own journey living through the American century, and explains why, while American primacy may be changing today, he maintains a faint ray of guarded optimism about the future of the U.S. in a richer but riskier world.

The event was the latest installment of WorldBoston‘s Chat & Chowder series, and was also co-sponsored by the Lowell Institute and the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.

The event was recorded, and will be available to watch on the Pardee Center’s YouTube channel soon.
