Visiting Research Fellows Pablo Suarez and Janot Mendler de Suarez Participate in Understanding Risk Global Forum
Pablo Suarez and Janot Mendler de Suarez, Visiting Research Fellows at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, were recently featured speakers during several sessions of the 2020 Understanding Risk (UR) Global Forum. The biennial conference, organized by The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and the National University of Singapore, convenes experts and practitioners from around the world to share innovations in the field of disaster risk identification.
Suarez and Mendler de Suarez facilitated or participated in interactive sessions that tied together humor, the arts, and risk management, focusing on racism and exclusion, depression and anxiety, solar geoengineering, and disinformation.
This work on humor and risk builds on a 2012 Pardee Center Report titled Games for a New Climate: Experiencing the Complexity of Future Risks, which was the result of a 12-member Task Force convened by the Pardee Center in collaboration with the Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre.
