Faculty Associate Adriana Craciun Awarded BUCH Henderson Senior Research Fellowship

Adriana Craciun, Emma MacLachlan Metcalf Chair of Humanities and Faculty Associate at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, has been awarded a Henderson Senior Research Fellowship by the Boston University Center for the Humanities (BUCH).

Named after Jeffrey Henderson, former Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS), the Fellowship has been awarded since 2004 by the Center for the Humanities, in collaboration with CAS, to tenured BU faculty to provide one semester’s leave of absence at full salary.

Prof. Craciun will use the Fellowship during the fall semester to work on her upcoming book, Arctic Enlightenments: Deep Time Floras and the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. The research for the book was the basis for the talk she gave at a symposium in February on the future of the Arctic, hosted by the Pardee Center and convened by Prof. Craciun and Michael Bravo, a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Cambridge. The symposium included a series of panel discussions featuring leading Arctic experts and concluded with a keynote address by Minister Inuuteq Holm Olsen, the Head of Greenland’s Representation to the U.S. and Canada.
