Delina Gives Two Lectures on Sustainable Energy Transitions at University of the Philippines

Laurence Delina, a Visiting Research Fellow at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future, recently delivered a pair of lectures on sustainable energy transitions at the University of the Philippines.

The lectures were part of Delina’s 19-day scientific visit to the University of the Philippines under the auspices of the Balik (Returning) Scientist Program, run by the country’s Department of Science and Technology. As part of the program, he delivered two lectures: one on the intersections between energy transition and the Sustainable Development Goals, and another on accelerating energy transition in the Philippines. During the visit, he also collaborated with Filipino engineers on new research projects to map and identify indigenous renewable energy sources in off-grid islands in the Philippines.

Delina recently began a new position as an assistant professor at the Division of Environment and Sustainability at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. While a post-doctoral associate at the Pardee Center from 2015-2019, Delina led a research project called The Future of Energy Systems in Developing Countries, which sought to understand the options and trade-offs for achieving a secure and sustainable energy future in a select number of developing countries.
