Two Past Summer Fellows Featured in Special Report for Work in Africa

havstadconzTwo alumni of the Graduate Summer Fellows Program at the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future were recently featured in a BU Research Special Report for their work in Africa. Lilly Havstad and Christopher Conz, both doctoral candidates in BU’s History Department and members of the Summer Fellows Program in 2014 and 2013, respectively, were highlighted for their field research through the African Studies Center.

Havstad’s research in Mozambique, which is supported by a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Abroad fellowship, explores “patterns of social mobility and urban provisioning in colonial and postcolonial Maputo City.” Conz, whose work in Lesotho is funded by a Fulbright Student Grant, studies how environmental and agricultural knowledge is acquired and passed down to generations over time.
