Starting in August 2023<\/strong>, we will launch our new curriculum. Our mission and goals will remain the same, but foundational sciences will be incorporated into a systems-based curriculum that integrates both normal and pathologic processes, with a focus on team-based learning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The\u202f<\/span>first<\/span>\u202fseries of courses<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>called Principles Integrating Science, Clinical\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Medicine<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and\u202fEquity<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(PISCE)<\/span>,<\/span><\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/span>is comprised of<\/span> three<\/span> foundational modules\u202ffollowed by eight systems-based (<\/span>e.g.,<\/span>\u202fcardiovascular, neuro\/psych) modules ending in ten weeks of integrated content based on patient cases.\u202f Woven into each of these modules are longitudinal threads (<\/span>e.g.,<\/span>\u202foncology, infectious disease, anatomy,\u202fetc.) as well as the school\u2019s key themes health equity cur<\/span>riculum, which includes the content previously taught in the patient to population health courses.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Social Concentration and Outreach Research Experience (SCORE) course introduces students to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>professional concentrations\u00a0<\/span><\/span>which they will likely encounter in their clinical practice. These concentrations can challenge <\/span>the clinician\u2019s ability to provide care. Examples of concentrations may include addiction medicine, LGBTQ+, homelessness, racism in the practice of medicine, patients with disabilities, and the elderly to name a few. Through lectures and readings the students will be exposed to the several<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>concentrations. Students\u202fwill\u202falso\u202fwork on integrated cases\u202fto revisit and connect the material they have learned across systems\u202fin the PISCEs curriculum<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>during SCORE<\/span>.<\/span><\/span> <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
