New Curriculum

Starting in August 2023, we will launch our new curriculum. Our mission and goals will remain the same, but foundational sciences will be incorporated into a systems-based curriculum that integrates both normal and pathologic processes, with a focus on team-based learning.

The first series of courses, called Principles Integrating Science, Clinical Medicine and Equity (PISCE),is comprised of three foundational modules followed by eight systems-based (e.g., cardiovascular, neuro/psych) modules ending in ten weeks of integrated content based on patient cases.  Woven into each of these modules are longitudinal threads (e.g., oncology, infectious disease, anatomy, etc.) as well as the school’s key themes health equity curriculum, which includes the content previously taught in the patient to population health courses.

The Social Concentration and Outreach Research Experience (SCORE) course introduces students to professional concentrations which they will likely encounter in their clinical practice. These concentrations can challenge the clinician’s ability to provide care. Examples of concentrations may include addiction medicine, LGBTQ+, homelessness, racism in the practice of medicine, patients with disabilities, and the elderly to name a few. Through lectures and readings the students will be exposed to the several concentrations. Students will also work on integrated cases to revisit and connect the material they have learned across systems in the PISCEs curriculum during SCORE.
