Vice President for Human Resources

Ken Freeman, Dean Emeritus and Professor of the Practice in Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, has assumed the role of Interim Vice President for Human Resources.  Ken’s understanding of BU and his extensive business experience will be invaluable as he leads our Human Resources group during this period of transition.

Ken joined the University almost ten years ago as Allen Questrom Professor and Dean of the Questrom School of Business, where he presided over a period of growth and transformation.  Prior to BU, he worked in industry for almost forty years.  He began his career at Corning, served as chair and CEO of Quest Diagnostics, and as a managing director and partner of the global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.  Ken currently serves on the board of directors of WBUR and the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership, and he is a fellow of the Boston University Human Resources Policy Institute.

Inez Alexander, Project Manager, joined Boston University in July 2013. Inez manages the financial and administrative activities and operations for Human Resources, Faculty and Staff Assistance, Family Resources, and Occupational Health. She provides operational and strategic leadership for high-impact projects and defines metrics to assess and meet quality service standards to drive service excellence and a high-performing collaborative culture. Inez is an experienced community-oriented operations and project manager with 14 years of human resources experience and successful achievements in academic and healthcare sectors, with an emphasis on customer service and efficiency in all aspects of human resources product delivery. She has a successful record of personal contribution in a number of high-demand and high-performance cultures and a lifelong commitment to mentorship and community development.

Juditra Burgess, Director of Labor Relations, is a labor- and employee-relations leader for Boston University. Judi negotiates faculty and staff contracts and provides advice and counsel on the interpretation of labor- and employee-relations matters and the National Labor Relations Act, as well as unionization trends in higher education. Through her collective-bargaining work and corresponding mediation skills, Judi supports the University’s strategic initiatives while maintaining labor harmony with the University’s nine unions. Prior to her tenure at Boston University, Judi held multiple roles at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority from Deputy Director of Labor Relations to the executive leadership rank of Assistant General Manager for Employee and Labor Relations. She also oversaw BJ’s Wholesale Club, Inc.’s human resources legal affairs, including handling of MCAD and EEOC discrimination cases, and implementing best employee-relations practices, education, and policies. Judi launched her legal career as an attorney with the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), where she served in the NLRB’s Philadelphia and Boston regional offices. Judi is a graduate of Howard University and Villanova University School of Law, and holds certificates in management (Suffolk University), trial advocacy (NLRB’s Trial Advocacy Institute), and leadership (Boston University).

Carolyn Gorham, Executive Director of Human Resources Operations, joined Boston University in 2015. Her primary responsibilities are managing compensation, HR information systems, and the HR Service Center. Prior to her appointment at Boston University, Carolyn worked as an HR leader in diverse industries including high technology, financial services, and professional consulting. Her areas of expertise include strategy, design and administration of compensation programs, HR information systems conversion activities, and business partner and consultative skills. Carolyn has over 25 years of broad human resources experience and is a certified compensation professional. She holds a bachelor’s with a concentration in human resources from University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Nimet Gundogan, Executive Director of Employee Benefits, joined Boston University in 1982 as Benefits Specialist and was named Manager of Benefits in 1987. She was promoted to Director of Benefits in 2000 and Executive Director of Benefits in 2006. Nimet currently oversees benefits strategy and administration for the University. She is also responsible for Faculty and Staff Assistance, Occupational Health, the Children’s Center, and Family Resources.

Patricia Sheehan, Executive Director of Talent Management, joined Boston University in 2016 as Director of Human Resources, charged with overseeing the human resources business partner function. Later that same year, she also assumed responsibility for talent acquisition. Prior to joining Boston University, Tricia held various HR leadership roles during her 20 years in the healthcare and service industries, focusing on employee relations and recruitment. A graduate of College of the Holy Cross with a bachelor’s in English, Tricia’s special focus is human resources and workforce development.
