Dan Hillman leads a team of 12 instructional designers. As a designer himself, he has received multiple awards, among them the United States Distance Learning Association’s Platinum award for Distance Learning Programming, as well as several Blackboard Catalyst Exemplary Course awards, including Directors’ Choice for Courses with Distinction.

He received both his M.A. and Ph.D. for studies evaluating distance education and has published his work in The American Journal of Distance Education. He is a co-author, along with BU professors Robert Schudy and Anatoly Temkin, of the books Best Practices in Administering Online Programs (Routledge, 2021) and Winning Online Instruction: A Q&A for Higher Education Faculty (Routledge, 2022).
