{"id":28,"date":"2009-11-02T10:53:20","date_gmt":"2009-11-02T14:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ombuds\/?page_id=28"},"modified":"2024-07-17T10:38:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T14:38:18","slug":"how-we-help","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ombuds\/how-we-help\/","title":{"rendered":"How We Help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--\n\n\n<h3>What\u2019s an \u201cOmbuds\u201d?<\/h3>\n\n\n\u201cOmbuds\u2019 is the shortened, generally Americanized form of the term \u201cOmbudsman.\u201d  At  Boston University, the term \u201combuds\u201d refers to the professional staff in the Office of the Ombuds who provide problem-solving resources to the BU campus.\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3iwfcpDUgXM\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\nThe term \u201cOmbuds\u201d is broadly understood to refer to a person who, acting in an impartial capacity, is appointed to help resolve complaints (\u201cWhat is an Organizational Ombudsman?\u201d)  In North America and Europe, the role has evolved, especially in recent years, into many different forms with different missions and practice standards. Most Ombuds who work in US-based academic settings are \u201corganizational\u201d Ombuds, and work to address concerns and problems of their constituencies using informal means.
