{"id":9,"date":"2013-06-03T15:17:45","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T19:17:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/neuropsychology\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2025-08-13T10:18:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T14:18:23","slug":"our-research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/neuropsychology\/our-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Vision &amp; Cognition Laboratory is directed by Alice Cronin-Golomb, PhD.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Our principal research focus is<\/span><span>\u00a0on the ne<\/span><span>ural correlates of perception<\/span><span>,<\/span><span> cog<\/span><span>nition<\/span><span>, and other psychological functions<\/span><span> in agin<\/span><span>g and age-<\/span><span>related neurodegenerative disease.\u00a0 Our main methodology is behavioral and includes visual psychophysics, neuropsychological assessment,\u00a0and sensory\/cognitive neuroscience, and neuroimaging.\u00a0 A current emphasis is on the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson\u2019s disease (PD) (perception, cognition, mood,\u00a0 sleep) and their interaction with motor symptoms, including consideration of motor subtypes (e.g., body side of PD onset, type of symptom at onset).\u00a0 We engage in basic research and in the development of interventions to enhance quality of life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span>Dr. Cronin-Golomb also has a long-standing interest in perception and cognition in Alzheimer\u2019s disease (AD).\u00a0 Her work and that of her students has been supported by the National Institute of Health, the American Parkinson\u2019s Disease Association, the Boston University Alzheimer&#8217;s Disease Research Center,\u00a0the Boston University Digital Health Initiative and Institute for Health System Innovation and Policy, and the Boston University Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research Office, Affinity Research Collaborative (ARC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Below: Presenting our research at the Massachusetts Neuropsychological Society (MNS) Science Symposium, 2025. \u00a0 From left, Nick Picanso, Seheni Kariyawasan, Meredith Rowe. Directed by <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/reinhartlab\/\">Dr. Robert Reinhart<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.buamplab.com\"><\/a><\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Who participates in our studies?<\/h3>\n<p>Primarily, our studies <span>recruit<\/span> individuals who have been diagnosed with one of the disorders or conditions listed above (for example, Parkinson\u2019s disease)<span> or healthy people of the same age group (usually<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>aged 4<span>0<\/span> and older<span>)<\/span>.
