\"BUBEST\"<\/p>\n

Boston University (BU) is one of seventeen institutions to receive the prestigious Broadening Experience in Scientific Training (BEST) award by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).<\/p>\n

The five-year, $1.8 million award provides\u00a0biomedical research trainees from across the University with enhanced training to help PhD students and postdoctoral trainees prepare for careers beyond conventional academic research.<\/p>\n

All GPN students participate in the workshops organized via the GMS “BEST” team of faculty and administrators. For more information go here<\/a> and explore!<\/p>\n

GPN students also take advantage of the rich offerings that GMS provides through its Office of Professional Development and Postdoctoral Affairs.<\/a><\/p>\n

It is required that all GPN students\u00a0create their\u00a0own independent development plan (IDP) starting with the resources offered through the MyIDP Science Careers website<\/a>\u00a0and to revisit this IDP on their\u00a0own and with their\u00a0mentor(s) regularly throughout their\u00a0graduate career and\/or the Chair of their\u00a0dissertation advisory committee (DAC). \u00a0An annual evaluation with the Program Director is also helpful\u00a0to monitor changes in students\u00a0career trajectorys as they\u00a0develop and the opportunity to identify new opportunities for professional growth that will put them\u00a0in the best position for reaching their\u00a0goals after their\u00a0PhD defense.<\/p>\n
