The NEIDL ARC maintains and infects arthropod vectors, such as Aedes aegypti<\/em> and Culex<\/em> mosquitoes to study, understand, and investigate the dynamics of infected insects and vertebrate hosts using medically important arboviruses such as dengue, Zika, West Nile, yellow fever, Chikungunya, and others.\u200b<\/p>\n

The NEIDL ARC provides unique and specialized services to researchers at Boston University as well as to external partners. \u200bTo initiate a project, please fill out the ARC- Service Request Form<\/a> (SRF).<\/p>\n

The ARC\u2019s mission is to support arboviral research projects that contribute to the development of treatments and prophylaxis for arthropod-borne diseases. The insectary facility complies with Arthropod Containment Level-2 and 3 (ACL-2, ACL-3) standards. All research projects are led by the NEIDL ARC Director<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fabiana Feitosa-Suntheimer<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scientific Planning and Oversight:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u200b<\/em><\/strong>Each project will undergo careful evaluation by the core director. Scientific support includes:\u200b<\/p>\n

  1. Experimental design and consultation (we offer fee-for-service).\u200b<\/li>\n
  2. Meetings with requestors to refine study goals.\u200b<\/li>\n
  3. Data analysis and interpretation of the final data.\u200b<\/li>\n
  4. Providing detailed methods and conclusions suitable for publication or grant submissions.\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Mosquito natural blood feeding<\/li>\n
    2. Mosquito Hemoteck feeding<\/li>\n
    3. Injection with RG2\/RG3 viruses<\/li>\n
    4. Dissection of mosquitoes<\/li>\n
    5. Immunofluorescence Assay IFA and imaging<\/li>\n
    6. Total RNA extraction<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    7. qPCR<\/li>\n
    8. Titration assays PFU \/ FFU \/TCID 50<\/li>\n
    9. Consulting and reporting, per hour<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Insectary Decontamination:<\/strong>\u200b<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Depending on the specific project, insectary decontamination may be required upon completion of experiments. The associated cost will be included in the project quote.\u200b<\/p>\n
