Unit on Covenant and the Male Imagery of Love: Da'at, Ma'at, and the Carnality of Knowledge

On Ma'at: None of the following is really very good. But cf. the concept of Ma'at as you find it described in the below sources with the biblical concept of wisdom (hokhmah), as it appears in Proverbs 8 ("Lady Wisdom"). As background to Egypt you may look at some of the links to Egyptian sources and sources about Egypt at

Links to versions of the Gilgamesh epic: Read in particular the passage about the initiation of Enkidu to human culture through intercourse with the harlot (cult prostitute).

Cf. the figure of Gilgamesh with the depiction of Solomon in 1. Kings (beginning of the book). What parallels can you discern in they way they are characterized?

On Greek homoeroticism and initiation: I couldn't find an on-line version of Theognis's "Elegies" but there should be some edition in the library (e.g., the Penguin Books edition where the text appears together with Hesiod, "Theogony" and "Works and Days").
