David, King of the Southern Tribes
In the Bible, the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem, is both the most beloved historical figure and the founder of a dynasty of metaphysical proportions. Yet biblical historiography preserves realistic details as well, such as the fact that he first ruled only over a few tribes in the South. His first capital was Hebron, revered as the site of the tombs of the Patriarchs and central to the Southern realm of Hebrew tribes.
