Welcome <strong>Katie<\/strong>! <strong>Katie<\/strong> will be working on our NSF-funded project, along with <strong>Prof. Stamenovi\u0107<\/strong> and <strong>Prof. Barbone<\/strong>, on tensional homeostasis of endothelial, epithelial, and stromal cells.<\/p>\n<p>January &#8211; <strong>Michael<\/strong> made a trip to Tinet, Kenya, with Engineers Without Borders! Michael traveled with <strong>Cameron Reimer,<\/strong>\u00a0our community host <strong>Franklyne<\/strong>\u00a0(who met us in Nairobi)<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>August Bernhard, <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Komal Kango\u00a0<\/strong>to begin implementing clean water solutions for this community. This project is the result of tons of work done by all of the student members of the BU chapter of <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ewbbu.com\" style=\"color: #000000;\">Engineers Without Borders<\/a>, and these students should all be commended for their selfless commitment to societal engineering<\/span>. It is titled &#8220;<em>Dependence of Tensional Homeostasis on Cell Type and on Cell-Cell Interactions<\/em>&#8220;. It is titled &#8220;Silk-fibronectin protein alloy fibres support cell adhesion and viability as a high strength, matrix fibre analogue.&#8221; Congrats!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>2016<\/h1>\n<p><strong>Nov 21<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Matt<\/strong> successfully defended his thesis titled &#8220;Peptide Processing via Silk-inspired Spinning Enables Assembly of Multi-functional Protein Alloy Fibers&#8221;! Congratulations, <strong>Matt<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oct 10<\/strong> &#8211; Collaborators <strong>Dr. Wilbur Lam<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. David Myers<\/strong> published a paper with <strong>Michael<\/strong> in <em>Nature Materials<\/em>. Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p><strong>May 20<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; <strong>Matt<\/strong> presents a talk titled &#8220;Microfluidic spinning of fibronectin fibers via silk-induced cross-linking&#8221; at the 10th World Biomaterials Congress in Montreal, Canada.<\/p>\n<p><b>January\u00a0<\/b>&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Michael<\/strong> became the Associate Chair for Undergrad Studies for the BME department.<\/p>\n<h1>2015<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p><strong>October 10<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Sze Nok<\/strong> presents her talk &#8220;Modeling tensional homeostasis in cells&#8221; at the annual BMES conference in Tempa, FL.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September <\/strong>&#8211; <strong>Samuel Rosset<\/strong> starts working at the lab as a visiting post-doc. Samuel is a lead scientist at Prof. Shea&#8217;s lab in\u00a0\u00c9cole polytechnique f\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne (EPFL).\u00a0He will be working on a project using\u00a0dielectric elastomer actuators as cell stretchers. We are very excited to have him here!<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 18<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Alicia<\/strong> had an awesome trip to Utah for her poster presentation at the Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering, and Biotransport Conference. Her poster title was &#8220;Role of cell-cell interaction in tensional homeostasis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 17<\/strong> &#8211; Congratulations to <strong>Han<\/strong> for passing her PhD oral qualification exam! As a rite of passage, it&#8217;s great to have that out of the way. This is no April Fool&#8217;s Joke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 3<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Our newest paper was just accepted for publication in <a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.rsc.org\/en\/Content\/ArticleLanding\/2014\/IB\/c3ib40127h#!divAbstract\">Integrative Biology<\/a>! This manuscript describes a micro patterning approach that allows the user to measure traction forces for focal adhesions that are bound to different extracellular matrix ligands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h1>2013<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p><strong>December 17<\/strong> &#8211; Congratulations to <strong>Liz<\/strong>, as she received the Biomedical Engineering Department&#8217;s Paper of the Year Award!
